Hydration Hacks: A How-To Guide On Drinking Enough Water

Whether it’s searching for diet tips, skincare solutions, or ways to improve overall health, we’ve all heard it before: Drink more water! And it’s true, most people do not drink enough water to stay sufficiently hydrated. But drinking more water is something that’s much easier said than done. So, here’s some of our best hydration hacks to get you started!

1. Figure Out What’s Stopping You
Most people have a reason for not drinking enough water. Do you not like the taste? Do you tend to prefer soda or coffee instead? Do you just not carry a water bottle? Whatever the reason may be, it’s important to identify it and come up with a solution that fits your lifestyle. If you don’t like the taste, play around with adding things like fruit or mint leaves to spice it up. If you don’t like carrying a water bottle, start off with a small one that can fit in your bag so you can take it everywhere you go and refill as necessary.

2. Know How Much You Should Be Drinking
We’ve all heard that 8 glasses of water a day is what we should be reaching for, but this may not necessarily be the case. New studies suggest that the amount of water you drink should be based on your weight. To calculate how much water you should drink, divide your weight in half. That number is the amount of ounces you should drink. So, for instance, if you are 130 pounds, you should be drinking around 65 ounces of water a day.

3. Out of Sight, Out of Mind
Sometimes, it can feel as if you’re too busy to do simple tasks like drinking water. If you’re not constantly reminded, it can be easy to forget about your personal health goals. So, constantly remind yourself. If you work at a desk, keep your water bottle within your sight and reach so it’s

easy to remember to drink more. Keep water next to your bed, a bottle in your cup holder, at least until you make it into a habit and start remembering on your own.

4. Make It Fun!
Who doesn’t like a good drinking game? Identify something that happens often in your everyday life. Drink every time you’re bored in class, a coworker yawns, or you bounce your leg. Another way to make it fun is to make it a competition. Whether you compete with yourself to see how much you can drink or with someone else to see who can drink more, a little competition can provide the motivation you need. If not,
thisgallon water bottle gives timed increments to motivate you to stay on track and drink more.

5. Eat Foods With a High Water Content
If you’re still not quite reaching your goal, one of the best ways to boost water intake is to eat instead of drink. Foods like celery, watermelon, grapefruit, and cucumber are all great foods to snack on or add to meals and keep yourself hydrated with.
